AURP Annual Award Recipients

Recognizes the parks that excel in bringing technology from the laboratory to economically viable business activities, thus promoting the growth of businesses, jobs and public revenue. These parks actively participate in the university community, creating an important positive effect on university research funding and on recruitment of superior students and faculty.

Outstanding Emerging Science Tech Park
This Award is presented to an emerging park that has been in operation less than five (5) years. Applicants will have excelled in bringing technology from the laboratory to economically viable business activities, thus promoting the growth of businesses, jobs and public revenue. These parks actively participate in the university and federal lab community, creating an important positive effect on university research funding and on recruitment of superior students, faculty and researchers. It was given for the first time in 2007.

Innovation Award
This Award recognizes innovative ideas and programs that have been implemented by research/science parks. The Award is intended to recognize that innovation leads to results. The recipient of this award will demonstrate leveraging assets to produce outstanding results in areas such as: recruitment and retention of park clients, park growth, exemplary services and success in commercializing technologies. It is our intent, through this award, to demonstrate the best innovative new practices that can lead to continued growth and excellence in our parks.

This award was presented to Vernon George, who has assisted in the creation of more than 40 universities and research parks. His work has led to many successful research parks around the nation and helped AURP grow into a well-established and widely recognized national association. Most of George's work was undertaken over the past 20 years as a principal of Hammer, Siler, George Associates of Washington D.C. and George, Henry, George Partners of Virginia. He also has been active in real estate, academic and economic development groups.
